Illustrative masterplan and detailed planting design for North York Moors Historical Railways Trust’s new carriage care facility.

Rbmp were commissions by the North York Moors Historical Railway Trust, a community based charitable trust which operates 18miles of railway between Grossmont and Pickering transporting more than 300,000 people per year, to prepare an illustrative masterplan and detailed planting scheme for the proposed NYMR carriage care facility. Prior to commission of the work the NYMR obtained a £4.4m grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The site of the carriage care facility, designed by Strzala Architects, is located close to Pickering Station and is proposed to play a key role in ongoing restoration of historic trains on the line providing essential storage and maintenance solutions.

As part of the project rbmp created a detailed and illustrative masterplan setting out detailed landscape proposals for the site including consideration of the areas which would be grass, seeded or turfed. The plan included information on the volume, species, and details of open meadow planting, mature screening trees and mixed native woodland planting along the footpath in keeping with the existing landscape of the surrounding area. A bespoke schedule and timetable for creation of the project also was created in order to allow for financial planning with contractors.

We have been working with rbmp for a number of years on various projects across Manchester and the UK. Their understanding of complex landscape design and planning related issues has been second to none. The rbmp team is always helpful, reliable and comes highly recommended from us.
